We had a nice birthday party for Brenton on Thursday, January 8th. We wanted to be able to have my sister there for it before she went back to South Carolina. We crammed a lot of people into our small house, but we had a lot of fun. Brenton loved his cake, although after a while, he really wanted me to wipe off his hands. He's kind of funny about having messy hands.

Other than celebrating Brenton's birthday, January was a fairly quiet month for us. February is shaping up to be much busier!

Christmas and long over due update

Wow, I have been quite the slacker with updating. We had a very busy holiday season this year. Brenton took his first steps on the day he turned 11 months old. It didn't take long before he started walking. We enjoy watching him toddle around the house, chase the cats, and get into EVERYTHING. It amazes me the things he manages to find.

For Christmas we spent a lot of time on the road visiting family. We were in Mt. Pleasant with Paul's family on Wednesday evening. Thursday we were at home for the morning and part of the afternoon. We also had Paul's family over for brunch. We spend Thursday afternoon through Saturday evening up north (Gaylord) with my mom's side of the family. We spend Sunday with my dad's family and Monday and Tuesday with my parents in Owosso. We had quite a week of wonderful time with our families.

Happy Thanksgiving and Update

We have had a busy last couple of weeks since my last post. We took our youth group at church to an all-nighter in Kalamazoo that included a hockey game, games and activites at the WMU Rec Center, bowling, and a message. It was a fun trip that left us a little bit tired:)

Wednesday, the 26th, we attended a Thanksgiving Dinner that our college group at church put together. It is an annual event they use to reach out to college students who can't go home for Thanksgiving. They had an excellent turnout and we enjoyed meeting the students and community members who attended.

We spent Thursday in Owosso celebrating Thanksgiving with the Erickson family. Brenton had a good time playing with a few new-used toys. There is a video below that demonstrates how much he loves his new push car. I am also including a few new pictures from the last couple of weeks.

Halloween Fun

It has been another busy few weeks around the Scoby house. We took our youth group at church on an overnight trip to Parma, MI. There, we were able to fellowship with a group of teens who were part of the missions project we did in Mt. Pleasant this summer. Brenton was able to go with us and we all had a wonderful time.

For Halloween, we had a nice visit from my dad, and we all enjoyed taking Brenton trick or treating for a little while. I have included a few pictures of Brenton in his Dalmatian costume below.

Today is Brenton's 9 month doctor's appointment (which is about 3 weeks late). I will try to post an update later today with all of the info from his appointment.

Birthday and Getaway

We have had a busy last couple of weeks, so I am finally getting around to an update.

At the beginning of October, we were able to spend some time with my sister, Mary while she was in town from South Carolina. While we were visiting her in Owosso on the 8th of October, Brenton started crawling. He had been army crawling for two months or so, but he finally was able to crawl on his hands and knees. It was a very exciting milestone to reach.

On October 15, Paul turned 30. We had a couple of family get-togethers to celebrate. Paul and I were able to go away last Friday night and Saturday while Grandpa and Grandma Erickson watched Brenton. We were able to go out to dinner in Big Rapids and then we went to the CMU-WMU game on Saturday. It was a much-needed time away for us, and Brenton had a good time being spoiled.

We had some fun with Brenton at music rehearsal the other night at church. He has been clapping a lot lately, so when I started hitting the drum sticks together during a song, he began to clap along. Then, I started tapping them on a chair and he started hitting the chair with his hands too. Finally, I decided to just give him the drum sticks and he loved hitting them on the walker and anything or anyone else in reach. It was so funny to watch. Here are a few photos I captured of our little drummer boy.

Tonight Brenton and I spent the evening at home by ourselves. It was nice to be able to relax and hang out for a while. I managed to capture a few pictures of his new favorite adventure, the Tupperware cupboard. He seems to really enjoy pulling everything out and spreading it all over the kitchen floor. At least he's leaving the cats alone for now. Although, I think that's mostly because he can't catch them. I'm sure it won't be too much longer before they are running for their lives.

I have also included another funny picture that Paul captured last week while hanging out with Brenton in our hotel room. I think he was trying to drop hints about his favorite activity.

Busy week and Traverse City

We have had a busy last couple of weeks. I have been getting ready for a conference in Traverse City for work, and it has been very time consuming. We spent Wednesday through Sunday at the Park Place Hotel in Traverse City. Paul and Brenton spent many fun hours together while I was working. We were able to relax in the water park at the Great Wolf Lodge for a couple of evenings with some friends. Brenton loved the baby pool and Paul and I had fun on the water slides as well. The conference got over yesterday and it was a rather bitter sweet experience. I am always relieved to have life go back to normal, but sad that it is over.

We spent today playing catch up and resting from our busy week. Brenton has been getting into everything today. His favorite event of the day was when I allowed him to explore the Tupperware cupboard while I was cooking dinner. I think he may be making that a regular activity.

Here is a video we took of him eating lunch. I have been working on sign language with him for a while now, but he's rather inconsistent. I finally captured him signing "more" while he was eating his lunch, so I thought I would share. I also added a few pictures of us playing at the water park in Traverse City.

Our Fun-Filled Summer

So I haven't updated this at all this summer, and I'm always jealous of everyone who has a blog that they actually keep up. How does anyone have the time??? Brenton is almost 8 months old now. He about 22 pounds and still growing like a weed. We have had a fairly busy summer. One of our main highlights was the missions project we did in Mt. Pleasant this year. We spent a week with the teenagers in our church ministering to lots of people in our city. It was an awesome experience we will not forget.

Brenton's Dedication and Mother's Day

We dedicated Brenton on Sunday at church. He probably won't remember much of it because he slept through the whole service:). We have a nice certificate to remind him and a few nice pictures as well. We had a really wonderful day, and it was great to have our family there to celebrate with us. After church we all went out to dinner and then back to our house to hang out. We also celebrated Mother's Day with each of our moms. Here are some pictures from the day.

A Weekend Away

Here are some pictures from our recent trip to Grand Rapids. We needed a weekend away for a little rest and we got it! Friday night was Brenton's first time in the pool, and he loved it. We spent Saturday shopping, and then Sunday we came back by the way of Ludington (kind of indirect, but it's one of our favorite places). We spent a few minutes on the beach and then got ice cream for the ride home.

3 month update and more

Brenton is growing like a weed. He is over 16 pounds now, and turned 3 months old today. We can't believe how quickly the time has gone by already. I know people have told me that they grow up too fast, but I never thought I would realize it so soon! Here's a recent picture of him with one of his books.

We had a rather relaxing weekend for the first time in quite a while. Our missions trip meeting was Saturday morning, and we are getting very excited about our project for this summer. Our trip isn't really a trip, it's more of a project. We are doing a missions "trip" to Mt. Pleasant this summer, and we are really looking forward to God using us to make a difference here.

Saturday afternoon we were able to spend some time at home and then we took a trip to Coldstone for a family date:) Brenton slept the whole time which was nice, and it gave us a chance to talk over our yummy cold treats. Here are the boys in the house relaxing and watching the Masters on TV.

Yesterday we got up early for church (5:45) because we were both playing on the worship team. Afterwards, we hurried home afterwards to spend time with a friend of Paul's who was up for the weekend. We had a nice lunch with him and his 2 1/2 year old son, and it was an excellent preview of what I have to look forward to in a couple of years:) I am so clueless as to the energy of little boys.

Late yesterday afternoon, my dad's parents arrived and got to meet Brenton for the first time. It was really nice to see them, as they have been in Florida since the beginning of January. Here are some pictures we took with them as well as a picture of our family from Easter Sunday at Paul's parents' house.

We created this blog a long time ago and have never used it, but since some of our family lives away from us, we thought it might be a nice way to keep everyone informed of what we are up to.
